The final deliverables to a production Engineer for a given product are normally the 2D drawing of a component in PDF format. SOLIDWORKS 2018 has made great improvements to the PDF templates by doing a complete overhaul of previous templates, with the available templates now supporting more information display including PMI of parts. 3D parts and configurations can be viewed together with their product information using the new PDF templates in SOLIDWORKS 2018. The new PDF templates look more Continue reading →
Broken out sections are ideal for exposing the inner details of an assembly in a drawing. SOLIDWORKS 2018 has made significant improvements in the broken out section functionality, as will be illustrated in this demo. SOLIDWORKS 2018 now lets you create broken out sections of existing sections just to expose the inner details better.
Looking at the drawing view above, we can further create a broken out section on the section AA view by first defining the broken out section Continue reading →
SOLIDWORKS is known for its versatility, and one of its advantages in complex designs is its ability to create advanced holes using the hole wizard feature. In SOLIDWORKS 2018, you can now dimension these advanced multistep holes automatically using the hole callout feature inside the drawings. In this demo, we will be looking at how to use the callout feature. Begin by creating a drawing from a complex part such as the one shown below.
SOLIDWORKS 2018 introduces cool new features that enable manipulation of mesh geometry. With this new version of SOLIDWORKS, you can now create solid bodies and instantly convert them to mesh data. This then enables you to carry out Boolean operations, such as combine and subtract. In this demo, I will be taking you through how you can easily convert solid bodies into mesh data.
SOLIDWORKS 2018 introduces improvements to its mate features inside SOLIDWORKS assembly, which helps the designer quickly and conveniently assemble the components making up a particular assembly.
A challenge presented in older versions of SOLIDWORKS is adding mates on surfaces that are hidden. With SOLIDWORKS 2018 superior mate capabilities, you can now temporarily hide faces to access the surface you require and perform a quick mate onto the desired surface.
SOLIDWORKS 2018 now allows manipulation of mesh data imported from external files into SOLIDWORKS with the ability to change its texture by specifying its material properties. SOLIDWORKS 2018 moreover allows more operations to be done on mesh geometry with the new surface from mesh feature.
What this feature does is that it allows you to quickly and conveniently turn mesh data into SOLIDWORKS surfaces by following some simple steps.
SOLIDWORKS 2018 has made tremendous improvements in mate features, and none is more impressive than the enhancements done on magnetic mates. SOLIDWORKS 2018 now allows you to specify multiple ground planes making assembly of components onto such surfaces much easier since a component can now be simply snapped onto the surface (Ground plane).
For the assembly line shown, we can see two floors specified under the Ground planes feature. You can switch in between these two surfaces by clicking on Continue reading →
