This is a very unique tool inside CAMWorks that allows one to automatically extract the machinable features from a part designed in Solidworks.
The AFR tool not only identifies these features but it also recommends the best operation that can be used to machine said features. Besides using this feature the user has the option of defining these features manually by simply add 2.5 axis features (a subset set of the mill part setup)
If we needed to detect the machinable features in the part below all we need to do is first define the stock and ten just click on the Extract machinable feature icon in the CAMWorks toolbar.
Under the CAMWorks feature manager tree you can observe that a new mill part setup has been created and the features that were automatically identified by CAMWorks added under this mill part setup.
It is important to note that only one mill part setup was created since the part requires machining in only one orientation. If it required two orientations then another mill setup would be created to cover the operations in the other orientation.
The user also has control over the type of features that CAMWorks identifies. By clicking of the CAMWorks option icon the user can explore and redefine the types of features he or she would like CAMWorks to identify.
As seen you can choose to let CAMWorks ignore some features like tapers and fillets depending on what you require
Once you have done this you can proceed to generate the operation plans. With this you can now be able to generate and simulate the subsequent tool paths.
The tool path simulation begins with a rough mill then finishes up with contour mill. This once again demonstrates the superior combo of CAMWorks and Solidworks in CADCAM systems.
